Gutter is a pipe or trough along the edge of a roof that carries rainwater away from a building.
It prevents water ingress into the fabric of the building by channelling the rainwater away from the exterior of the walls and their foundations. Water running down the walls causes dampness in the affected rooms and provides a favourable environment for growth of mould, and wet rot in timber.
In architecture, soffit is the underside (but not base) of any construction element.
Like many parts of a home’s exterior, soffit serves both an aesthetic and a functional purpose. Functionally, the basic mission of soffit is to protect rafters from the elements. Keeping moisture away from the rafters reduces the chance of mold, and helps preserve the life of the materials.
Is the area of siding directly above the soffit. It’s the exposed board you see on the front of your roof’s overhang.
Your fascia is also where gutters are placed.
The purpose of the fascia is to cover the space between the roof, eaves and wall while creating a neat and streamlined finish.
Fascia can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, plastic, aluminum, or pressure treated wood.
Vinyl siding is plastic exterior siding for houses and small apartment buildings, used for decoration and weatherproofing, imitating wood clapboard, batten board and batten or shakes, and used instead of other materials such as aluminum or fiber cement siding.
On a house, siding is what helps defend the exterior against weather, impacts and other intrusive elements, such as insects.
